More skin than skill?

Tennis is another love of my life. I started the sport when I was around 12 and for the past 10 years, I have been playing nearly every week. In the tennis centre where I play, we don't dress up. But tennis fashion is fascinating.

Here is an article where Margaret Court said tennis women now show more skin than skill. Do you think people now treat the sport too much like a show?

  1. Well I'll tell ya what - I was never much of a tennis match watcher on TV until Venus & Serena Williams busted onto the scene. HOT! And those babes got gams AND game! :)

  2. There is a lot of show, it seems to me, in women's tennis. But there's also a lot of work and stamina. I don't see how they keep going. I'd be flat out on the court after five minutes.

  3. Women's athletics have always had to have something more to get the audience, the sponsors, and the money. If it takes skin, at least it's easier to play without your knickers billowing around your ankles!

  4. During the time of pre-history, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, I too, played tennis. In fact, I still have a racket in the garage, safely sheathed and protected from harmful UV.

I shudder to think what would happen if I again stepped onto the court. No, I guess it would be more comical. No, pathetic is the right word.

Here’s a way to measure age. Try doing something at 60 you did (with a bit of skill) at 16, without ever having done it much in between. Painful to think about.

  5. Venus is good, Marvin, but I don't like Serena that much. Come on Helen, what about a bit of dancing first to start with? Karen, that's true, getting sponsorship is the trouble. Galen, is that why you traded a tennis racket for a fishing rod? So you can stand around rather than run around?

  6. No you don't get it. If you look that good you don't HAVE to be all that great - men'll watch. That bumps the TV ratings, more endorsements, more cash, etc.

C'mon - I know you been around enough to know how this thing works. LOL

Seriously, though, yes - Venus is by far the better player. Even in full cover long johns she could whip me real good.

At tennis, Enid - TENNIS! (See where your mind went?)

  7. I understand completely Marvin. Still I don't like Serena, tennis nor figure. Venus is better.
