Consulting Aunt Agony?

In Jane Austen Fan Fiction world, many readers do not like Charles Bingley at all. They think he's spineless for listening to his elder sisters, for taking the advice of Mr. Darcy and for believing Jane Bennet did not love him.

I actually do not find Bingley such a bad character. At least he's friendly, polite, sees the good in people and be humble enough to consider other's advice.

And what's love? In Pride and Prejudice, when Elizabeth asked Mr. Darcy to tell her when he started falling in love with her, he couldn't name the exact moment and that's what Lizzy said:

To be sure, you knew no actual good of me -- but nobody thinks of that when they fall in love.

Have you ever regretted asking for love advice?

  1. I can't think of a time when I asked for advice about love. Now that I think about it, that seems a bit odd. Hmm.

  2. Helen, you must be a very confident person. That's great.

  3. I think it's almost always bad to ask for advice about love, because you only want to believe what's already in your head and ignore the advice you do get -- even if it's good, LOL -- if it doesn't reinforce what you plan to do anyway ;-)

  4. And I don't think Bingley's a bad character, just easily swayed by his sister and his best friend who have known him a long time and of whom he refuses to think badly.
